Forest City Little Music Makers' New Teacher!

Ian MacKay is a professional drummer, percussionist, educator, studio musician, and gigging musician. Originally from London, Ontario, he earned a BA in Popular Music Studies from Western University in 2009 and has recently completed his Masters of Education at Niagara University.
Ian has performed extensively across Canada and internationally, appearing in the United States, Mexico, Europe, Scandinavia, and South Korea. Throughout his career, he has performed with artists including Juno-nominated Basia Bulat, Treble Charger, Juno Award-winning Shad, Mike Evin, Irene Torres and the Sugar Devils, and many others. He has also performed drums on Hip Kids Music, Volume 1, a Juno-nominated children’s album.
Alongside his busy career as a live and session musician, Ian is passionate about music education and balances his work as a music teacher with an active performing career.
As a father, educator, and musician, Ian has always understood—and is continually reminded—of the important role music plays in a child’s development at every age. His experiences have strengthened his belief in music's ability to foster creativity, confidence, connection, and lifelong learning.
Ian is a trained Music Together® teacher and has also completed the additional Rhythm Kids® training. He is excited to bring his experience and passion for music education to the classroom and to be part of the Music Together community here at Forest City Little Music Makers.
